This post has been a long time coming. Back in March my aunt, my mum and I went for afternoon tea in celebration of my aunt’s birthday at Warren House in Kingston, Surrey. We kept the destination a surprise, and we didn’t fail to disappoint!
I love going to afternoon tea with my mum and my aunt, its such a lovely pastime and reminds me of childhood memories of having it in our living room. (Ssh, that’s still a guilty pleasure of mine). I also like going with mum due her sweetener allergy, it really helps to gauge whether the place is any going to be any good or not. I don’t read reviews on places, I write them. I booked online through one of my favourite websites for booking afternoon tea, but I always call in advance to see how accommodating they would be for my mum’s allergy. Note to self; you are still hunting for a chocolate afternoon tea that suits, try again this year. Warren House were near perfect, when I called closer to the time about the allergy the lady on the phone was unsure and said she would check, took my number and said she would get back to me – and they did! I wasn’t able to answer my phone at the time, but they left me a voicemail; so far so good.
We arrived at the place, not the easiest to find but luckily I wasn’t driving, and it lived up to expectations! Once we arrived, they took our coats and took us through. Service so far had me hooked at wanting to go again, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. We sat at our table and were left to browse at the selection of teas, good number of choices. I went for Strawberry & Cream, a black tea which was divine! Complimented my scone the best. The usual chit chat accompanied the sandwiches, scones and cakes. I have to mention the little sand timer that they had, I wanted to take it home! Such a simple device with the three types of tea represented by colour; white, green and black. I am now on the hunt for one of these tea gizmos due to the difference it made to my cup of tea.
Full tummys and a quick browse around the house and gardens it was, overall, up there in a very good place to have afternoon tea. It was affordable at approx £25pp combined with excellent service and even a birthday cake for my aunt. If you are looking for something a little bit special for a loved one or celebrating a birthday – I would recommend Warren House.
