#BlogAtTheBeach – A first timers perspective

Michelle and I were lucky enough to be invited to this year’s #BlogAtTheBeach, hosted by icelolly.com. And having never been to a blogging event before I was excited, yet nervous, to attend. So one rainy Friday night, we headed on a road trip from Surrey up to Leeds.

Upon entering the room for the event we found our names lanyards and it was time for the moment of truth, we grabbed a couple glasses of sangria and headed into the crowd of iPhones and Olympus Pens….. luckily for us Michelle had been talking to a couple of other attendees on twitter, so we were able to put a few friendly names to faces and break the ice a little.

We met lots of great new people at the event – and I found out just how far asking about someone’s dress, bag or notebook can be a conversation starter. As part of the day we got to experience talks from 3 fabulous guest speakers; Rhianna BoweJen Lowthrop and Jess Gibson and we learnt lots about planning and confidence in the moment, we also learnt about the importance of sharing ideas and learning from each other as bloggers and socialmedialite.

So what do I take away from this event? I took away a bit of confidence in ideas, and the reminder to have fun with writing and let it be an outlet for creativity, and the reminder to let go of what others think.

I am glad Michelle and I went to Leeds and had the chance to attend this event, and am thankful to icelolly.com for the invitation.
